Golden Spaniel

DIMENSIONS: 10″ x 7″ (25 cm x 17.5 cm)

FRAME DIMENSIONS: 13″ x 9.5″ (33 cm x 24 cm)

PROVENANCE: Part of the private family collection, UK. The dog has been the subject in a few photographs which Archer took.

INSCRIPTIONS: Inscribed with signature top left .

CONDITION: Presently in it’s original frame which is slightly damaged. This painting seems to be in excellent condition.

This portrait of a golden spaniel must be Archer’s dog. The tones are really rich, and the dog has a super glint in his eye! It would lovely to know the name of the dog which must be engraved on his collar tag. May it will come to light one day, if any more family papers are discovered. The portrait is set on a green background.

The provenance of this painting is backed by the photographs that Archer took of his dog, pictured here sitting with Beatrice ( Archer’s wife) on the steps of their home in Ickenham. A further photograph show the dog and Beatrice walking, it is believed, on the cliff tops near Whitby lighthouse. A place where Archer undertook more paintings.
