Old Salt
This portrait has obviously been quickly done from life in the seaside setting. Archer was obviously taken with the old sailor sitting in front of his beach hut. Sitting in the summer sunshine and smoking on an old pipe with his pet crow in a cage beside him. His small garden which the sailor has nurtured is included in the picture.
The provenance of this painting is backed by the photographs that Archer took on his holiday travels. The two photographs here show the old sailor sitting in a similar way to the painting while the other is of the sailor kneeling at his small garden. as yet the location is unknown.

DIMENSIONS: 11″ x 7.5″ (27.5 cm x 19 cm)
PROVENANCE: In a portfolio of paintings as part of the private family collection, UK. It has been the subject in a few photographs which Archer took.
INSCRIPTIONS: Inscribed with signature bottom right . The reverse of the painting has “The Old Salts Garden” and Archers signature written in pencil.
CONDITION: This painting is in good condition, but presently not mounted in a frame.
