Ross on Wye

A petty watercolour painted from the river bank at Ross on Wye, a small market town in south eastern Herefordshire, England, located on the River Wye, and on the northern edge of the Forest of Dean. The 700-year-old Parish Church of St. Mary’s is the town’s most prominent landmark and is the central feature in this painting.

It is quite evident that Archer and his wife Beatrice spent some time there, may be on holiday or visiting friends or family. There are numerous photographs of the area in Archer’s photograph albums.
