Although this watercolour is unsigned, it is clear that it is in Archer’s own hand. Among his photographs are ones taken at Whitby, were he visited with his wife Beatrice.
The colours are bright, with a nice detail of the lighthouse as it was in the 20’s and 30’s. The lighthouse is located on Ling Hill, on the coast to the south-east of Whitby, beyond Saltwick Bay. It should not be confused with the two lighthouses located in Whitby itself, which protect the town’s harbour.
