This is painted in a similar way to other paintings that were painted in the Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay, North Yorkshire area. It has superb bold colouring, But there may have been a spillage of paint in the sky area, which may explain the lack of signature and possibly has been left slightly unfinished.
The figures on the beach are dwarfed by the dramatic cliffs in the background.
The location of the painting has yet to be established, but the North Yorkshire cliffs where Archer visited may be a good candidate for the location. Photographic evidence may be discovered in the future.
